1 Corinthians 15:3-4, 6, 14, 17 ESV
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.
Paul wrote this regarding Christ's death and resurrection. Firstly, he confirms Christ died for our sins
The next thing he does is to accord it with Scripture - thus confirming it as truth.
He goes on to state the next fact - that Christ was buried.
Then, he makes the claim - that Christ was raised on the 3rd day in accordance with the Scriptures.
Despite Old Testamental Scriptures never really explicitly saying this miracle will happen, it does have subtle hints. Similarly, Christ Himself told His disciples this would happen.
The next thing he does is to reaffirm that this is true - quoting 500 witnesses.
After that, Paul tells the Corinthian church the most important thing - if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and our faith is in vain. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.
This is the significance of Christ's resurrection. It symbolises the conquering of death; the conquering of sin. It declares Christ God's chosen Messiah. It defines Christianity. Many people often think the important part is Jesus's death. They fail to realise without the resurrection His death means nothing.
